Kobza-player in the Museum-Gallery of the Applied Ceramics

On March 9, 2011 on the occasion of the anniversary of a classic of Ukrainian literature, prominent master of brush, academician of engraving, well known public figure Т. G. Shevchenko, a meeting of schoolchildren of Zaporizhzhya schools with the artists of our city took place, which was organized by the founder and the author of the museum Valentina Ilyinichna Batalkina, maiden name, Burlai-Hiltmann.

A display of pictorial, graphic and sculptural works dedicated to the great Kobza-player was organized at the museum.
On this occasion a large group of pupils of 5-6 forms and teachers of municipal schools «Mechta» and Secondary School No.88 were invited. Children were well prepared to the cultural and educational event held within the scope of the project «Museum and School». They recited immortal poetry of Т.G.Shevchenko included in the curriculum. It is of interest, that the works exhibited by Zaporizhzhya artists complied with the content of verses recited by the schoolchildren. This can be illustrated by the picture of B.Yegorov «I was thirteen…». In the picture Taras the shepherd is painted with a book or pictures, with a hat by his side, sheep grazing around him, a village at a distance with poplars and windmills, nearby Oksanochka with a bunch of field flowers.

After recital of poet’s verses a painter V.A. Gertsenok told about his works dedicated to T.G. Shevchenko, which were exhibited at the regional and all-ukrainian exhibitions. V.A. Gertsenok presented the portrait of Shevchenko, executed in the technique of black and white linoleum engraving, then told about the engraving «Haidamaks» (after the poem of Т.G. Shevchenko) when cossacks and peasants sanctified sabres in Cold Ravine for a fight against the Polish gentry, which oppressed the Ukrainian people.

Children looked interestedly at this picture — multi-figure composition portraying folk defenders from oppressors.

Painter S.V. Latansky presented his paintings and told about a painting «Taras among his countrymen», where Shevchenko listens to the blind kobza-player singing about the fate of oppressed people. And on the second painting one can see Taras visiting his sister Yaryna, where Т. G. Shevchenko is portrayed among his relatives and countrymen.

Of special interest was the painting «Tarases’ pear tree» portraying the historical fact of Shevchenko’s stay in Vosnesenka village opposite glorious Khortytsia. Thus, Zaporizhzhya dwellers are conscious of the fact that the great kobza-player visited our land.
During his creative life and activity the Zaporizhzhya sculptor P. Logvinov paid much attention to the theme of Taras Shevchenko. He created the gallery of busts of a great son of Ukrainian people, which were made of granite and gypsum and decorate Zaporizhzhya, Energodar and other cities.

The guests of the museum were pleased to be at this festive occasion within the framework of the educational project. And a perfect completion of the event was the skilful opera singing of G.N. Selyuk, a former teacher, a laureate of all-union festival of folk creativity. This meeting was telecast by Zaporizhzhya television.
